Gibb River Road
For many travellers to the North-West of Western Australia, the Gibb River Road is almost a translation for “road into adventure territory”. 4WD vehicles are essential to navigate this unsealed stretch of outback road. During the cool and dry winter months, it is usually easy to manage, only after periods of rain or towards the late part of winter, there may be corrugation and washouts. The 650 km road trip leads from Derby in the West to Kununurra in the East of the vast Kimberley Region and traverses some of the world’s oldest rock formations. Exciting river crossings, excellent bushcamping areas, comfortable homestead and farm stays, majestic mountains, vast cattle grazing country and pristine and undisturbed bush are just some of the features that make up Gibb River Road.
