Purnululu National Park

The Bungle Bungle range, beehive-shaped rock formations south of Kununurra, speak of 20 million years of geological history – and to non-Aboriginal people, this place has only been known since the early 1980’s! A rough 50 km track off the Great Northern Highway near Halls Creek leads to the most spectacular Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu NP. Black-orange sandstone domes are intersected by narrow, palm-lined gorges where deep down cool ponds of crystal-clear water reflect sunlight off the sheer walls of the ‘hives’. Parts of the 160 km2 area are best discovered on foot, visitors are well advised to follow established and signposted tracks. The park is best seen from the air, as only during a helicopter of sightseeing flight, the incredible labyrinth of the rock domes, gorges and small open plains can be grasped fully. Many well-seasoned travelers called their visit to this spectacular wilderness area a milestone during their trip Australia – discover it for yourself!
