Gippsland Lakes

The area on the south coast of Victoria incorporates The Lakes National Park, Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park and the stunning and famous Ninety Mile Beach – an incredible stretch of most scenic coastline offering great swimming beaches, excellent fishing opportunities and a great boating playground. Lake cruises, boat charters and scenic excursions into the vast national parks are offered locally. Lakes Entrance, the main town in the area, is the access point to more than 400 km2 of navigable waterways. The artificially created ‘entrance’ of the town’s name allows the Tasman Sea and the lakes to meet. The drenching of this canal made it possible to provide a very safe harbour for one of the largest commercial fishing fleets in Australia. Whilst a focus is on any water-related in the area, the Gippsland region of Victoria is also well-known for its high quality food, dairy product, seafood and wine industries and visitors can enjoy an abundance of fresh food that is served at local restaurants and cafes.
