Cable Beach
What Bondi Beach is for Sydneysiders, Cable Beach is for Western Australians and many visitors; the stunning 22 km long stretch of sand on the shores of the Indian Ocean is one of the most stunning beaches in the world. The white sandy beach fringes the turquoise ocean and massive tidal movements of up to 10 m wash it clean daily. Its name stems from the famous telegraph cable which was laid between Broome and the Indonesian island of Java in 1889. In recent years, Broome and its fantastic beach have become an iconic beach holiday destination particularly popular during the balmy winter months with travellers from southern cities like Perth, Melbourne or Sydney. Bordering the famous beach is the unique natural feature of Gantheaume Point, where 130 million year old dinosaur footprints have been perfectly preserved (a plaster cast of the tracks have been embedded at the top of the cliffs).
