Not only has
Nourlangie Rock served as a shelter for thousands of years for local Aboriginal people, the rockwalls have also been widely used as canvasses, providing a window to rich spiritual tradition. Many sites in the area are accessible, but visitors are not encouraged to climb the rock itself. There are several bushwalks around the rock. These lead through beautiful savannah-like woodland in which an
abundant birdlife and wildlife is at home. From April to October, national park rangers give informative talks about
Aboriginal art and culture which visitors are invited to join. For the adventurous-minded, there is a moderately steep climb to
Gunwarddehwardde lookout which provides unforgettable vistas of both, the stunning
Arnhem Land escarpment as well as the surrounding rock formations at Nourlangie.
