Ubirr Rock is a magnificent set of ancient rocks overlooks the vast and fertile floodplains of
East Alligator River; during the wet season, it remains inaccessible for months at a time. Ubirr would probably be one of the best spots in
Kakadu from which to view unforgettable sunsets. The
Aboriginal rock art galleries show predominantly quite simple, red-ochre style paintings as well as some more recent “X ray” style paintings. There are some of the finest examples of
X-ray art in the world, and they are incredibly well preserved. This style of rock art is particularly mesmerising since the artist not only paints what can see from the outside but also depicts what is known to exist on the inside.
