Victor Harbour
In the 1830’s, the crystal clear waters of Encounter Bay and the Southern Ocean beyond throbbed with whalers and sealers. Granite Island just off the town’s beach housed a whaling station. Victor Harbour was an important port and life very much revolved around ships, whales and cargo. The whaling has long since ceased, but the town is home to the South Australian Whale Centre which focuses on 25 different species of whales and dolphins found in southern Australian waters. The town is a popular holiday destination for locals and visitors alike, it is close to Adelaide, the Hills and Kangaroo Island. There is a wide variety of accommodation and restaurants available and excellent beachside caravan parks provide shaded van sites.
