Mount Field National Park
Mount Field National Park - Tasmania’s very first national park - is an ideal place for a daytrip from Hobart; the park offers wilderness for beginners! It is probably best known for its impressive Russell Falls and Lady Barron Falls. The impressive 40 m high Russell Falls is a comfortable 15 minute walk from the carpark, which is wheelchair-friendly. There are numerous walking trails of different degrees of difficulty in the park, most pass through lush ferns and cold climate rainforests, but there are glaciated landscapes, too, as during the last Ice Age, this area was drastically changed to what visitors can see today. Nearby is the Styx Tall Tree Reserve, a small reserve of great significance: It is here where one can see the tallest hardwood trees in the world, the majestic Giant Swamp Gums which grow to a staggering height of 92 m!
