Hobart

Hobart, the capital of Tasmania and Australia’s most southerly city, is built on either side of the Derwent River and stands in the shadow of majestic Mount Wellington, dominating the skyline at 1,271 m high. The city has a moderate to cool climate, with snow at higher altitudes during the winter months. There are many touring and activity options around the city and in the region surrounding the city. Discover the Harbour, Galleries and Gardens, explore historic Battery Point and Salamanca Place. Hobart’s famous “Salamanca Market” is open Saturdays from 08.30 AM to 15.00 PM. There is also a wide variety of accommodation in Hobart, ranging from higher standards at the Wrest Point Casino and Henry Jones Art Hotel to local Bed and Breakfasts and simple Motels. The city is home to the finishing line for the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht race, Hobart’s premier sporting event, which involves hundreds of International and interstate tourists traveling here late December each year. Due to its location Hobart is an ideal base for Southern Tasmanian journeys.
