Abel Tasman National Park

Abel Tasman National Park is a national park located at the north end of the South Island. The landscape is famous for its granite cliffs, beaches and world-famous Abel Tasman Coast Track. The vegetation reflects a history of fires and land clearance, but the forests are regenerating well, especially in damp gullies where a rich variety of plants can be found. Black beech dominates the drier ridges. The more common forest birds, like tui and bellbirds, can be seen along with pukeko around the estuaries and wetlands. Like in any national park in the country, all life in the reserve is protected. Several short walks are available around the road ends. One can also take advantage of the water transport service, which can drop visitors off part way along the coast. Walking, sea kayaking and sailing are popular activities in and around the Abel Tasman National Park, with a mild climate its a great place to visit at any time of the year.
