Holiday Coast - Coffs Harbour to Myall Lakes
The Holiday Coast in New South Wales starts at Hawkes Nest, Myall Lakes National Park, in the south and goes all the way to Byron Bay up north. Its major towns are Forster, Taree, Port Macquarie, Kempsey and Coffs Harbour, with “Coffs” being the centre of the Holiday Coast, located about halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. The region has an abundance of stunning beaches, rainforest, marine reserves, rivers and lakes. Coffs Harbour itself is famous for “The Big Banana” – a giant fiberglass structure - as the tropical climate is ideal for growing bananas, macadamia nuts and avocados. At the start of the Holiday Coast, there is the Myall Lakes National Park, one of New South Wales’ most visited and treasured parks. This is an area with an enormous network of lakes; it is a haven for sealife and forest wildlife and an estimated breeding ground for 200,000 shearwater birds. But it is also a haven for those who like water activities, and the drive between Coffs Harbour and Myall Lakes is ideal for people who enjoy water and beaches.
