Sydney Fish Market

West of the Cockle Bay/Darling Harbour leisure precinct of Sydney’s Inner Harbour lies its world-famous Fish Market. On the edge of Blackwattle Bay, the market is still within walking distance from the CBD. Guided tours of the market are available, but an individual visit is equally rewarding. It is best though to start the day very early, as the hours around dawn are the busiest – fisherman return from a night of fishing in the waters off the coast and unload their cargo to sell the freshest possible fish and seafood one can get. Restaurateurs and gourmet fanatics from all over town get their supplies directly from the markets; caught in the early hours of the morning, it will be served for lunch and dinner on the day. Visitors can get a taste at one of the many cafes and other food outlets; from sashimi to traditional fish’n chips, from smoked salmon sandwiches to prawn cocktails, the choice is yours!
