Terms and Conditions

Please read the Terms and Conditions below carefully before using this website as they form an integral part of your contract with SelfdriveOZ [hereafter referred to as 'we' or 'our'] for all holiday components you book with us. Please read them carefully as they explain our respective obligations and rights. By accessing, browsing, and / or using this website, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agreed to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these Terms and Conditions, do not use this site. If anything contained in these Terms and Conditions is unclear, please contact our consultants for assistance.

Bookings

Making a Booking/Reservation contract

To make a booking, you must complete the booking form on our website. Our website contains simple and easy-to-follow instructions as to what you will need to do in order to make a booking. If you require any assistance with using our website, please contact us.

Once we have received your booking form and all appropriate payment details, we will, subject to availability, confirm your reservation by sending you a booking confirmation and invoice. Please check all documentation we are providing you with very carefully and contact us immediately if any information provided to you appears to be incorrect or incomplete as it may not be possible to make changes later.

A legally binding booking contract between you and us comes into existence when we send you our reservation confirmation / invoice for bookings you make with us.

Minimum booking fee

Please note that we will charge you a booking fee of AUD 33 / NZD 33 if the total value of your booking is below AUD 500 / NZD 500.

Amendments / Changes to your booking

Any amendments / changes to your booking are subject to approval by the relevant hire company. Should you wish to make any changes to your confirmed booking outside of 35 days before the departure date, and provided we can confirm such a change, we will charge an amendment fee of AUD 55 / NZD 55 per booking component changed in addition to any fees that may be imposed by the hire company. Any necessary external communications costs may also be charged to you in addition to this processing fee.

Please note that a change of rental company will be treated as a cancellation and the normal cancellation charges will consequently apply.

No refunds are granted for any services booked but not taken. No refund will be given once your rental has commenced [i.e. once you have picked up your hire vehicle.

Cancellations of booking

Your deposit of AUD 200 / NZD 200 is non-refundable in case of cancellation of your booking. In addition, a vehicle supplier may impose cancellation fees up to 100% of monies due. Any cancellation fees that apply are additional to the forfeiture of the deposit charged by SelfdriveOZ.

Should you have to cancel a vehicle hire booking or any of your rental components once these have been confirmed to you, you should immediately advise us in writing via email or facsimile transmission, or by registered mail. Your notice of cancellation will only be effective when it is received by us in writing and we have confirmed receipt of the cancellation back to you. If the cancellation is not received by us, the onus is on yourself to follow it up with us.

Cancellation charges set out below will be applicable from the day of cancellation, i.e. the day when we confirm to you receipt of your cancellation. These are percentages of the total costs payable by you, excluding any processing fees according to the period before departure within which written notification of cancellation is received by us. Processing fees are non-refundable.
  • 56 days or more before booked vehicle pick-up date:
Loss of deposit [AUD 200 / NZD 200]
  • 55 - 28 days:
40% of total cost plus loss of deposit
  • 27 - 6 days:
80% of total cost plus loss of deposit
  • Less than 6 days or on or after departure:
100% of total cost plus loss of deposit
Any additional charges passed on to us by suppliers of any services booked by you will be passed on to you and will be added to the above cancellation charges.

We recommend that comprehensive travel insurance is taken out. Unforeseen circumstances that may require you to cancel the planned trip can be very costly, particularly when a cancellation is made shortly before commencement of the intended hire. Please ensure that you have sufficient travel insurance cover.

Changes to the contract and cancellation by us

We may, at any time and without prior notice, change any part of these Terms and Conditions. Your continued use of this website is conditioned on the Terms and Conditions stated at the time of your use. You should visit this page prior to using this website to determine the current Terms and Conditions to which you are bound.

Changes to the contract are only valid in writing; verbal changes are invalid unless confirmed in writing.

Whilst we will always endeavour to avoid changes and cancellations, we reserve the right to make changes to your travel arrangements in exceptional circumstances which are beyond our control. Changes are classed as either ‘minor’ or ‘major’.

Most changes are minor and will not result in profound changes to the overall travel service we are asked to provide to you and will not negatively affect the overall standard or quality of the holiday you have booked. We reserve the right to apply a minor change if required and we will tell you as soon as possible of any such change being made. A minor change is any change which, taking into account the information you have given to us at the time of booking or which we can reasonable be expected to know as a tour operator, we would not reasonably expect to have a significant effect on your confirmed holiday booking.

On extremely rare occasions, we may be forced to make a major change before your departure, such as a change in the category of vehicle booked to a lower category than the one confirmed in your booking. If we have to make a major change to your confirmed booking we will tell you as soon as it is reasonably possible. If there is time to do so before departure, we will offer you the choice to either a] accept the changes to your booking, or b] accept the offer of an alternative holiday from us which is of an equivalent or higher standard in which case you will not be asked to pay more than the original holiday booked with us [should the holiday be cheaper than the one originally booked by you as a result of a major change, we will refund the price difference]. If you do not wish to accept the alternative holiday we offer to you, you may choose any one of our other then available holidays, in which case you will have to pay the applicable price of that holiday. This means paying more if you then choose a more expensive and receiving a refund if it is cheaper holiday. We will also offer you the option of canceling the holiday without charge and in which case you will receive a full refund of all monies paid to us.

If we have to cancel your booking, we will provide you with a detailed explanation and we will give you a full refund and pay you where compensation is due, reasonable compensation depending on the circumstances and when the major change or cancellation was notified to you subject to the following exceptions. Compensation will not be payable and no liability beyond offering the above mentioned choices will be accepted where we were forced to make a change or cancel as a result of unusual and / or unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which we could not have avoided even with all due care and attention on our part. Compensation will not be payable where “Force Majeure” applies [please refer to corresponding paragraph in these Terms and Conditions].

No compensation will be payable and the above options will not be available if we cancel as a result of your failure to comply with any requirement of these booking conditions entitling us to cancel [such as paying on time] or if the change made is a minor one.

Deposit payment

In order to secure your booking, a non-refundable deposit payment of AUD 200 for a booking in Australia or NZD 200 for a booking New Zealand is due at the time of making a booking. This deposit secures your booking and it will be taken into account when calculating the total amount payable of your booking with us.

Final payment

Payment of the balance of the price of your vehicle hire is due no later than 35 days prior to the commencement of your holiday; this date will be shown on your booking confirmation and invoice. We will charge your nominated credit card 35 days prior to the commencement of the first service you have booked with us. If the balance can not be charged to your credit card 35 days prior to commencement of the hire [e.g. lack of sufficient funds on the card], we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled by you. In this case, we will retain your deposit and the cancellation charges as set out below will be payable by you. After receiving the total holiday price from you we will send you your travel documents. You have no legal right to any of the travel services included in your contract with us until the full holiday price has been received by us on time.

Form of payment

Vehicle rentals booked via this website can be paid by credit card only.

Late bookings

Bookings made within 35 days prior to the date of pick-up of the hire vehicle must be paid in full at the time of making a booking.

Feedback by you

We always welcome feedback from our customers with regards to the services we provide or that of the rental vehicle suppliers.

In the unlikely case that you have any reason to complain or experience any difficulty whilst on holiday, please use the contact number[s], which are provided to you in your travel documents to inform the relevant rental vehicle supplier immediately so that they are given the opportunity to rectify the situation as quickly and efficiently as practical. If you do not do so, it may hinder the ability the hire company to resolve a problem.

If for some reason you are not able to reach them after several attempts or if the complaint or problem is not resolved to your satisfaction straight away, you can contact our office and we will endeavour to provide assistance as soon as possible. In such cases please take into account any time differences.

In the unlikely event that your difficulties cannot be resolved locally, please write to us within 28 days of your return to your country of origin, providing your full name, booking reference, full details of your complaint [including information as to when and how you attempted to contact the rental vehicle supplier locally], together with any other relevant information you may have at hand. This will allow us to address your concerns efficiently and in a timely manner. If you fail to contact us within this time frame we will have been deprived the opportunity to investigate and rectify the problem and this may affect your rights under this contract. It is quite unlikely that you will have any complaint that cannot be settled amicably either with us or locally with the relevant rental company.

Force Majeure

Except where otherwise explicitly stated in these Terms and Conditions, we can not accept liability or pay any compensation where the performance or prompt performance of our contractual obligations is prevented or affected by, or you suffer any damage or loss as a result of a “Force Majeure” event. This includes [without limitation] war, threat of war, riot, civil unrest, industrial dispute, terrorist activity, natural or nuclear disaster, fire or adverse weather conditions or any other events which we or the supplier of the service[s] in question could not, even with all due care, foresee or prevent.

GST Goods and Services Tax

Unless specified, all rates quoted on this website include the Australian Goods and Services Tax [GST] of 10% and the New Zealand Goods and Services Tax [GST] of 12.5%. These Government taxes remain subject to change at any time without prior notice.

Group Rates

If you and your friends plan to travel as a group and hire a number of campervans, you may be entitled to a generous group discount. Please ask us for an attractive proposal and quotation!

Liability, Jurisdiction, Contractual Agreement

We act as an agent only for the vehicle hire companies listed in this website, and disclaim responsibility for any losses, damages and accidents and deaths caused or arising from circumstances beyond our reasonable control. When the rental vehicle has been collected, and the rental agreement / contract between the hirer [you] and the hire company has been signed, the Terms and Conditions contained within that contractual agreement apply to the full extent permissible by law and jurisdiction:
  • All representations, terms, warranties, guarantees or conditions, whether implied by statute, common law or custom of the trade or otherwise, including, but not limited to, implied warranties, guarantees or conditions of merchantability and/or fitness for a particular purpose, are excluded.
  • We shall have no liability to you or any member of your party for anything, other than a breach by us of an express provision of these Booking Conditions [including but not limited to negligence on our part or the part of our employees or agents].
  • You acknowledge that you do not rely on any representation or statement made by or on behalf of us or our employees or agents other than the express provisions of these Booking Conditions.
  • We shall not be liable for any consequential, indirect or special damage or loss of any kind suffered by you or any member of your party
Western Australian law and jurisdiction shall apply in any case of a dispute between you and us.

Our Responsibilities

Product information presented on this website has been prepared and / or supplied by hire vehicle companies listed. In supplying the information to our customers, we are solely acting as an agent of these hire companies. Irrespective of any measures taken by us to ensure the information presented on the website is accurate at the time of release, we repudiate and will be exempt from liability in respect of any misleading, false, incomplete or inaccurate information and any errors and misdescriptions.

Passports, Visas and Health Requirements

It is your own responsibility to find out about any applicable visa, immigration, health, vaccination and / or any other travel requirements for your chosen destination.

We assume that you have received all necessary childhood immunisation[s]. You are advised to check with the local consular office or embassy of the country you wish to visit in order to ensure you have the required immunisation[s].

Visa and immigration requirements may change from time to time and it is recommended travellers make relevant enquiries well ahead of their intended period of travel. You are responsible for ensuring that you satisfy any applicable requirements of entering your destination and that you are in possession of all necessary travel and health documentation before departure [which would include your passport, visa etc]. Please remember that most countries now require you to have a passport which is valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of departure from your holiday destination.

Should you experience any difficulties as a result of not being able to fulfill any of the rules or conditions required to enter the destination of your choice, such that your participation in the holiday is either inhibited or limited in any way, you do not have the right to cancel or change your booking without charges being incurred by you. We can not be held responsible for any expenses, cost liabilities and / or loss incurred in relation to any such matters or for your failure to comply with laws, regulations and requirements of countries visited.

Rates and Prices

Unless otherwise specified, all rates quoted on this website are expressed in Australian dollars [AUD] and New Zealand Dollars [NZD]. Please note that payments for vehicle bookings in Australia must be made in AUD; bookings in New Zealand are being charged in NZD. Vehicle rates are quoted per vehicle / per calendar day. Whilst all due care and attention is taken to ensure that the advertised prices on this website are correct, we reserve the right to make changes and correct errors in advertised prices at any time before your holiday is confirmed.

We endeavour to include in all prices quoted on our website all taxes, charges or fees that apply. All such surcharges are automatically included in any payments you make to us. However, for vehicles booked in Australia, the quoted prices may not always include Australian Stamp Duty. Also, with some of our hire vehicle suppliers, certain items or services can only be purchased locally at the time of pick-up of the vehicle. Any services you purchase will then be subject to applicable local taxes and charges. Please see the 'Important rental info' [otherwise referred to as the ‘rental info and conditions’] section on our website for each of our featured suppliers, which outlines which compulsory local payments [if any] apply in each destination.

Rental charges

Campervan companies charge by the calendar day. Regardless of the actual time of collection and return, you will be charged for the full day you collect and the full day you drop your vehicle off. Car rental companies [including some 4WD vehicles] are charged on the basis of a 24 hour day, e.g. if you pick-up your hire vehicle at 14 PM on the first day, you can continue to use the vehicle until 14 PM on the last day of your booking.

Special Requests

Should you have any special requests, you must advise us accordingly at the time of booking and clearly note it on your online booking form. We will endeavour to pass on any reasonable request to the relevant supplier concerned. However, as there can be no guarantees that the suppliers will accept any such request, such a request does not form a binding component of your holiday contract with us.

Travel Insurance

We recommend that you take out adequate travel insurance against loss of deposit [where applicable], cancellation charges, baggage loss or theft, accident, injury or medical expenses. It is the client’s responsibility to purchase travel insurance. We can not be held responsible for any decision made by insurers, and / or by any suppliers or requirements of any overseas country or governmental authority or overseas laws and policies. SelfdriveOZ can not assist in arranging insurance cover.

Validity

All information included and prices quoted in this website are valid and applicable as per pricing information provided for each vehicle hire company.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive

Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry; if you still do so, your insurance may be invalidated and you would be liable for any damage caused. The number of seatbelts [and passengers] is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances, we will have no further liability to you and no refund of any moneys paid could be claimed.

Please note that any information on our website may have changed by the time you book your holiday with us. As a travel service provider, we take responsibility for the content contained in our own website. We make every conceivable effort to ensure the information we receive from third parties, such as our vehicle hire companies, is complete and presented with accuracy on our website. Pictures, illustrations, text and any other information contained in this website are subject to change at any time without prior notice. Images are a representation only of the vehicles depicted. Hire companies reserve the right to substitute, vary and / or change / exchange a specific vehicle type at any time and without prior notice. However, we can neither take responsibility for the accuracy of any such information nor can we notify you each time such information is updated or changed by vehicle rental suppliers. We will endeavour to inform you of any changes that are relevant to your booking of which we are notified before we confirm your booking. You must however carefully check the details and the price of your holiday with the details provided on your booking confirmation and invoice.

Flight Delays

You are responsible for ensuring that your flight arrival and departure times allow for the pick-up, drop-off and transfer times to / from a hire company’s depot location as set by the hire company with which we book your holiday.

If for any reason your flight is likely to arrive later than the date or time recorded in your booking request you are required to inform the rental company of this change as soon as you become aware of it. We will not be responsible for any costs or difficulties you may incur with the rental company as a result of a delay caused by flights or other means of transportation. If a change is made to your flights well in advance of the departure date you can pass this information on to us and we will inform the rental company for you so that the necessary adjustments to your booking can be made. You will be responsible for any processing fees or other charges incurred as a result of any such change to your booking.
