Kalumburu Road
About 320 km east of Derby and 40 km past Gibb River Station lies the turn-off from Gibb River into Kalumburu Road, a rough stretch of mainly sandy outback road leading to the missionary outpost of Kalumburu at the “End of the Road North”. Permission to visit this lonely outpost is required and must be arranged for before departure. Old mission buildings, with well-kept orchards and gardens behind, are quite beautiful and there is good fishing in the area. Kalumburu Road leads through amazingly scenic bush and savannahland and offers a number of exciting river crossings, which are easy to navigate during the dry season (May to October).
