A visit to “
Window on the Wetlands” is ideally combined with nearby
Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, which is one of several parks within the
Adelaide River catchment area which that provides a refuge for rare and endangered animals of the
Top End. Adelaide River is one of altogether eight rivers in the area that have large floodplains in their catchments. Together, they create a massive expanse of coastal wetlands, making it one of the rarest land systems on the planet. There are both, an Interpretive as well as an Interactive Centre; free guided walks are also on offer to visitors. The visitor centre is perched on one of the highest points overlooking the floodplains and wetlands. The upswept line of the building’s roof represents the wings of the
dancing brolga (a type of stork), one of the most
spectacular wetland birds.
