Bundaberg is the southernmost access point to the
Great Barrier Reef which stretches for over 2,000 km along the East Coast of Australia. But Bundaberg is also well-known for “
Bundy Rum”, which is distilled from sugarcane that is grown around the town in huge quantities. The distillery can be visited, tours depart daily. The
Botanical Gardens include some of the rarest exotic plant species on public display in
Queensland. The old part of Bundaberg is home to a number of beautifully preserved old homes and buildings; a 28 site self-guided walking tour starts at the historic post office in
Barolin Street. Information can be obtained from the local visitors bureau.
