The
Bellarine Peninsula separates the waters of
Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne’s giant natural harbour, from the infamously rugged and wild coastline of Victoria’s south-west. Beyond historic buildings, streets and Geelong’s waterfront, there are quaint coastal villages,
vast agricultural areas, beautiful beaches, championship golf courses and excellent wineries. The
wine industry was established in the 1850’s, but it only got a head start in the 1960’s. Today there about eight producers on the Bellarine Peninsula that have a growing reputation for
pinot noir and chardonnay wines of very good quality.
