Tasman Peninsula
The amazing rock formations around Eaglehawk Neck alone would make a visit to the Tasman Peninsula a “must”; add to this vertical cliffs (some of them basalt pillars that look like organ pipes), the dark blue waters of the Tasman Sea surrounding the peninsula and spectacular coastal and cliff walks, and the picture of a nature lover’s paradise applies. Tasman Blowhole, Tasmans Arch and Devils Kitchen are key attractions in the area, occurring in rocks that is said to be 250 million years old. One of the most striking features is the Tessellated Pavement, these are naturally-formed rocks which appear to have been neatly “tiled”. Earth and wave movements combined with erosion have fractured the remnants of basalt pillars over millions of years.
