Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsula is a popular summer destination. The Peninsula’s beaches, national parks and vineyards make it a favourite destination for beachside holidays that come with green hinterlands and ocean beaches. In any season, popular activities are walking, fishing, golfing, and eating out at the many restaurants, pubs and cafes. The Peninsula is located south-east of Melbourne, surrounded by Port Phillip, Western Port Bay and Bass Strait. The 90 km drive from Melbourne via the Nepean Highway and Peninsula Freeway takes about two hours. There is a abundance of things to do in this lovely area. Beside the bay there are many safe swimming beaches and fishing spots. On the ocean side of the peninsula there are challenging surf beaches and coastal walks, while inland there is pretty countryside, historic homesteads and cellar doors for wine tasting and sales. The region also boasts a large number of golf courses, and a lively arts, crafts and culture scene has developed over the years.
