Church of the Good Shepherd is located only metres from the icy blue waters of

New Zealand, and features an altar window that frames stunning views of the lake and mountains. The world-famous church, the first built in the
Mackenzie Basin, was built as a memorial to the pioneers of the
Mackenzie Country. The foundation stone was laid by the Duke of Gloucester in January 1935 and seven months later dedicated in August 1935. It was constructed to last from lakeside stone and oak with a clear plate glass window to allow a view of the blue lake in the background.
