The internationally recognised
Bay of Fires is situated along the north-eastern coast of the state, between
Eddystone Point and Binalong Bay. The southern section of the bay is a declared conservation area, which secures additional protection for the environmentally sensitive coastal and marine wonderland. The middle section lies in the vicinity of
Ansons Bay and the northern part is situated within the
Mount William National Park. A wide range of activities can be pursued in the Bay of Fires area, including camping, beach activities, boating, birdwatching, fishing, swimming, surfing and walking. Original explorers to the area named the bay after seeing Aboriginal fires along the shore. Many sites of great significance to the
Aboriginal community can be found in the park.
