Bay of Plenty
Within a few hours drive hours along the pacific Coast Highway, one reaches the serenely beautiful Bay Of Plenty south-east of Auckland. The bay derives its name from an abundance of food that is produced in the region. Around the coastal city of Tauranga, one of the major towns along the East Coast, there are many orchards and market gardens producing kiwi fruits (the town of Te Puke produces 80% of all kiwi fruit in New Zealand), various types of citrus fruit and avocados. In addition, there is an abundance of fresh seafood and, to top it off, there is a very lively local wine industry, too. Any trip to the region is a treat for everyone’s taste buds. Besides the excellent wining and dining, the region also has many natural treasures, such as Mount Maunganui (Mauao), White Island (the only permanently active marine volcano in New Zealand) and many hot pools and spas. The region is an ideal getaway for anyone interested in soft adventure like fishing, boating, sailing, hiking and mountain biking; those who prefer the good life go for the relaxing and the fantastic dining experiences the Bay of Plenty has available!
