The Pinnacles
The Pinnacles are located at 245 km north of Perth near the town of Cervantes. They are limestone rock formations that offer visitors many spectacular photo opportunities. The rough material for the limestone of the Pinnacles originates from seashells in an earlier age. These shells were broken down into lime-rich sands which were then carried inland to form high and mobile dunes. The Pinnacles were formed from lime leaching from the sand and by rain compressing the lower layers of the dune into a soft limestone. You can easily visit them on a daytrip from Perth; many tour companies offer 4WD tours, but you can drive there with a normal car or camper/motorhome as well.
